Officers and Committees

The officers of the Staff Council will be Chair and Secretary.  The responsibilities of the chair may include but are not limited to scheduling meetings, establishing agenda items, and ensuring that the directives of the council are being carried out.  The responsibility of the secretary may include but are not limited to taking minutes at all meetings, arranging for minutes of the meeting to be taken in the event of absence, and sending individual correspondence to council members.  The election of officers will take place at the last regular meeting of the academic year in May to take effect the following academic year.  Committee chairs will also be selected for the three standing committees.

Each committee has a chair who is on the Earth, Life, and Health (ELH) Sciences Staff Council, and reports back to the Council regularly. Council members are expected to serve on at least one committee per year of their term.  Committee members are not required to be members of the Staff Council, but are required to be ELH Staff members.

Staff Honors Committee – shall solicit, review, and select the winner or winners of the Outstanding ELH Staff Award on a yearly basis. The committee will also organize periodic honors and shout-us.

Administrative Committee – shall solicit action items from the Dean at the beginning of the academic year.  The committee shall compile a list, prioritize items, establish timelines and plans for completing each item. The Committee shall also present the itemized list to the greater Council.

Professional Development/Events Committee – shall promote, encourage, and provide professional development opportunities for the three represented staff groups throughout the academic year.  The goal is to offer an opportunity each month of the academic year with the option that one event a semester be for personal enrichment.  Each monthly opportunity may not be applicable to all the staff groups collectively, but every effort will be made to ensure that each group is represented at least once a semester.

Ad-hoc Committees – shall be formed on an as-needed basis with leadership decided at the time of formation.
