Students dive for science
UMaine marine science students hit the pool on September 3 for the first session of SMS324-Introduction to Research Diving. The semester-long course begins in Orono before shifting to the Darling Marine Center, UMaine’s waterfront research and education facility on the Damariscotta River. Students are instructed in advanced diving skills, dive rescue, oxygen administration, and research diving techniques. Successful completion of the course qualifies students for scientific diver certification from the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS), opening up new career and research opportunities.
