Student Symposium: Research and Creative Activity Day, scheduled for Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. During the poster, oral, and roundtable discussion sessions scheduled throughout the day, many undergraduate and graduate students will be presenting the scholarly and creative work that they have completed over the academic year.
We hope you will ask faculty members to consider setting aside this day on their syllabi as a classroom-free, academic day. Designation of the Student Symposium as a classroom-free, academic day has the general support of the Student Government, Graduate Student Government, and Faculty Senate.
In order to facilitate student involvement, faculty members are encouraged to provide course activities related to the Symposium. Examples could include holding capstone or graduate student presentations as part of the Symposium, assigning students to review particular events at the Symposium, or meeting at the Symposium to review and discuss presentations.
The overall schedule for the UMaine Student Symposium will be distributed by January 31, 2017, so that faculty can finalize their plans for the day. Transportation from campus will be available at no charge. Limited classroom space at the Cross Insurance Center may be reserved, first come first served, by contacting Ms. Alexandria Jesiolowski. General information about the UMaine Student Symposium is posted at umaine.edu/research/symposium.
Thank you for considering this request. The Symposium is an amazing celebration of students’ intellectual curiosity, innovation, and hard work. We look forward to seeing you and your colleagues there.
