Turfgrass science concentration cited in Sun Journal story on ‘cool majors’
In a story on cool majors at Maine colleges and universities, the Sun Journal included the turfgrass science concentration added three years ago, as part of the environmental horticulture major at the University of Maine School of Food and Agriculture. Students choosing to pursue the turfgrass concentration spend their senior year studying at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. “We’re promoting to students that it’s a great option,” Sue Erich, director of the School of Food and Agriculture, told the Sun Journal. “We have some businesses in the state that grow turf and sell turf — there’s a workforce piece to it.”
